Better World Books – Changing their World with One for One Books

Started by a couple of college students who were looking for an opportunity to make a little money while also making a difference in the world around them, Better World Books is an organization that harnesses the power of capitalism to bring literacy and opportunity to people around the world.  Their one for one books initiative allows consumers access to a variety of books, both educational and for pleasure reading, provides competitive pricing and also gives back.  Every time someone buys a book from, they donate a book to someone in need.  As of October 1, 2011 Better World Books has donated over 5.8 Million books.

The Better World Books website features a huge selection of new and used books, from textbooks to fiction to self-help and topics in just about every category imaginable.  It also features a place to make a direct donation and an area for those looking to sell their gently used books.  In addition to affordable prices, Better World Books also offers free shipping worldwide on every single item on their site.  The one for one books initiative from Better World Books helps to fund a number of worthy causes, including such organizations as Room to Read, Invisible Children, The National Center for Family Literacy, Worldfund, and Books for Africa.

Better World Books is also focused on making a positive impact on the environment.  They work with libraries around the country to collect and recycle unwanted books, partner with premier carbon balancing services and use sustainable, eco friendly business practices.  To date, Better World Books has raised millions of dollars for literacy, saved millions of books from landfills, created jobs for hundreds of people, and provided wonderful books to millions of readers worldwide with their one for one books initiative and socially responsible business model.  They invite you to join them on their journey and help change the world, one book at a time.
