TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie is certainly no stranger to giving. Since 2006, the socially responsible company has been devoted to helping the global community by providing much needed footwear to children in need. A few years ago, upon seeing the impact his efforts had, Mycoskie began considering the addition of one for one eyewear as well. In June 2011 TOMS launched a new eyewear line, designed and developed by John Whitledge, founder and creative director of TROVATA clothing as a buy one give one sunglasses program. Now with every pair of glasses you purchase, TOMS will help give sight to someone in need. One for one glasses!
The TOMS Eyewear website offers a wide selection of stylish sunglasses for both men and women and provides innovative online shopping features such as a “virtual try-on” option that allows users to upload a photo of themselves and “try on” different styles to find the look that best suits them.
Unlike other socially responsible companies that offer similar giving programs, TOMS one for one eyewear initiative means more than just giving glasses. With the assistance of their Sight Giving Partner, the Seva Foundation, whose programs and partners have helped nearly 3 million people in resource-poor communities around the world to see again, a purchase from TOMS helps to ensure that those in need receive the appropriate eye care that they require with its new one for one glasses program. Care is provided in one of three ways: medical care, prescription glasses or sight-saving surgery. Their ultimate goal is to help to give sight to people in need all around the world in whatever way possible. Buy one give one sunglasses!
This summer, TOMS, has launched a new campaign to help it reach its goal of saving and restoring sight to 100,000 people around the world. TOMS’ Summer of Sight kicked off on May 10, timed with the anticipated arrival of new TOMS Eyewear product that will hopefully make shoppers look as good as the good they are doing.
Of the Summer of Sight campaign, TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie said ‘When we launched last year, we had no idea we could get anywhere near helping 100,000 people in such a short amount of time. We’re truly proud, yet humbled, that the response to TOMS Eyewear has been so positive. The goal of 100,000 people returning to work or school, rejoining their communities and regaining their independence is something all of us at TOMS – and our fans – are excited about.”
