Tree T-Shirt by Forgotten

Product Description: This 100% organic cotton shirt is made in Uganda by Forgotten. This shirt is incredibly soft and comfortable. The Forgotten Tree shirt is inspired by an African proverb: “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

The Good: Forgotten was founded in 2009 with the idea that charity will never be enough to eliminate poverty in places like Uganda and urban Minneapolis. Forgotten exists to provide dignified jobs and opportunities for people who live in poverty.

Forgotten works with cotton farmers in Gulu, Uganda. We teach these farmers how to grow organic cotton and with our help, they are generally able to triple their income – which allows them to buy new tools, build new houses, and send their children to school.

We work with textile workers in Kampala, Uganda. Our textile workers work in excellent conditions, never have mandatory overtime and are given breakfast and lunch every day. In a country where unemployment can reach 80% or more, each worker is thankful for a job and a way to provide for their families.

Forgotten shirts are screen printed by at-risk urban teens in Minneapolis. With Forgotten, they not only have a job, but they also receive tutoring and other support. Most of our screen printers go on to college, having been given the skills and opportunity to succeed.

Each Forgotten shirt represents 74 minutes of employment and directly impacts the lives of 3 people.
